One of the most effective methods to fortify cloud security is through Multifactor Authentication (MFA).
In this blog, we’ll delve into the significance of MFA in Oracle Cloud and how it strengthens the protection of sensitive data and resources.
Topics to be covered:
Introduction
Multifactor authentication (MFA) is a method of authentication that requires the use of more than one factor to verify a user’s identity. With MFA enabled, when a user signs in to an application, they’re prompted for their username and password, which is the first factor. The user is then required to provide a second type of verification. The two factors work together to add an additional layer of security by using either additional information or a second device to verify the user’s identity and complete the sign-in process.
In Oracle accounts, MFA can be implemented to secure sensitive data and applications. This is especially important in cloud environments or in systems where sensitive data is handled, such as in Oracle Cloud services. The use of MFA reduces the likelihood of unauthorized access, as even if a password is compromised, an attacker would still need the additional factor to gain access.
Why Use MFA?
Users are increasingly connected, accessing their accounts and applications from anywhere. As an administrator, when you add MFA on top of the traditional username and password, that helps you to protect access to data and applications. This also reduces the likelihood of online identity theft and fraud, which secures your business applications even if an account password is compromised.
The Importance of MFA in Oracle Cloud
Oracle Cloud hosts a vast array of critical business applications, databases, and sensitive data. Securing access to these resources is paramount to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches. MFA adds an extra layer of defense against various cyber threats, including phishing attacks, credential theft, and brute-force attacks.
Enable MFA through Mobile Authentication App
To enable MFA through an app, we need to download Oracle Mobile Authentication App in our Mobile.
Link to download Mobile Authenticator App –
IOS – Click Here
Android – Click Here
1.Once you have downloaded the app, Login to your Oracle cloud Account.
2. On the right side of the navigation bar, choose your account name, and choose My Profile option.
3. Choose Security option.
4. Now, Click on three dots as mentioned in the image below and select Add Mobile App.
5. Now a screen appears that holds an QR Code that you need to scan through your Mobile Authenticator App.
6. Now your MFA authentication is done. You can check by log in again.
Note: Till here, we have successfully added Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to our Oracle account! MFA adds an extra layer of security to our account, helping keep your information safe. Now, whenever you log in, you’ll have an added level
of protection beyond just a password.
Now we will check if MFA has enabled successfully and how it works-
7. Once you have Login again into your oracle cloud account-
8. As, you have authenticated your account, while logging into your account it will ask you a passcode or allowance through your authenticator to permit your access.
Note – For this, you need to check your mobile app and enter passcode or allow through your device. This shows that our MFA is successfully enable.
9. For Reference check images below, When you attempt to login through mobile Notification –
Similarly, you can also configure another MFA factor’s as well such as email passcode option or You can add a security question as well.
Conclusion
Multifactor Authentication (MFA) plays a vital role in bolstering the security posture of organizations leveraging Oracle Cloud services. By adding an extra layer of authentication beyond passwords, MFA mitigates the risk of unauthorized access and data breaches, safeguarding sensitive data and critical resources. As cyber threats continue to evolve, embracing MFA in Oracle Cloud is not just a best practice; it’s an essential strategy for maintaining a secure and resilient cloud environment.
