In this post, I am going to share some quick tips including Q/A and useful links from Day 5 of AWS Solution Architect Associate covering Module 4: Designing Computing Environment.
On Day 4 session we have covered topics AWS Storage, CloudFront, AWS Snowball, AWS Storage Gateway.
On Day 3 session we have covered topics Identity & Access Management (IAM), AWS WAF, AWS Shield, AWS Key Management Service (KMS).
On Day 2 session we have covered topics Create EC2 Windows Machine, Linux Machine and Webserver
On Day 1 session we have covered topics Cloud Service Model, AWS Services, Create FREE Tier Account, Ways to Access Services.
Here are some of the Services that constitute an AWS Computing Environment
Amazon EC2
Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) is a web service that provides secure, resizable compute capacity in the cloud. It is designed to make web-scale cloud computing easier for developers. Amazon EC2’s simple web service interface allows you to obtain and configure capacity with minimal friction.
Q1. What are the Benefits of EC2?
Ans. The Major Benefits of EC2 are:
Q2. What is the difference between user data and metadata?
Ans. Instance metadata is data about your instance that you can use to configure or manage the running instance. Instance metadata is divided into categories, for example, hostname, events, and security groups. While, when you launch an instance in Amazon EC2, you have the option of passing user data to the instance that can be used to perform common automated configuration tasks and even run scripts after the instance starts.
Q3. What does AMI include?
Ans. An Amazon Machine Image (AMI) is a template that contains a software configuration (for example, an operating system, an application server, and applications). From an AMI, you launch an instance, which is a copy of the AMI running as a virtual server in the cloud.

AWS Security Groups
A security group acts as a virtual firewall for your EC2 instances to control incoming and outgoing traffic. Inbound rules control the incoming traffic to your instance, and outbound rules control the outgoing traffic from your instance. When you launch an instance, you can specify one or more security groups.
Q4. What is the difference Between Security Group And Network ACL?
Ans. Some of the differences are mentioned below :
Q5. Are security groups Stateful?
Ans. Security groups are stateful—if you send a request from your instance, the response traffic for that request is allowed to flow in regardless of inbound security group rules.

EC2 Purchasing Options
AWS provides four main EC2 instance purchasing options. They are: On-Demand, Reserved Instances, and Spot Instances, with the added option of Dedicated Hosts.
Q6. Why am I get charged for EC2 instances?
Ans. You are charged for Amazon EBS storage for the amount of storage provisioned to your account, measured in “gigabyte-months.” Amazon EC2 instances accrue charges only while they’re running, but EBS volumes attached to instances continue to retain information and accrue charges, even when the instance is stopped.
Q7. What are the different Category of IP Address?
Ans. There are two types of IP:
Q8. What is EBS Snapshots?
Ans.

Amazon Elastic File System (EFS)
Amazon EFS provides a simple, serverless, set-and-forget elastic file system. With Amazon EFS, you can create a file system, mount the file system on an Amazon EC2 instance, and then read and write data to and from your file system.

Q9. What are the characteristics of Amazon Elastic file system?
Ans. Amazon EFS is designed to provide the throughput, IOPS, and low latency needed for Linux workloads. Throughput and IOPS scale as a file system grows and can burst to higher throughput levels for short periods of time to support the unpredictable performance needs of file workloads.
Q10. What is the difference Between EFS & EBS?
Ans.
Q11. What is the Amazon FSx file system?
Ans. Amazon FSx for Windows File Server provides fully managed file storage that is accessible over the industry-standard Server Message Block (SMB) protocol. Amazon FSx for Lustre is a fully managed service that provides cost-effective, high-performance, scalable storage for compute workloads.

Check out one of the questions and see if you can crack this…
Ques. Which AWS services can be used to store files? Choose 2 answers from the options given below.
A. AWS RDS
B. VPC Endpoint
C. AWS EC2 Auto Scaling Group
D. Amazon S3
Reply back with your answer.
The right answer will be revealed in my next week’s blog.
Here is the answer to the question shared last week (Scroll down at the end of this post for question).
Ques. Which of the following can be attached to EC2 Instances to store data?
A. Amazon Glacier
B. Amazon EBS Volumes
C. Amazon EBS Snapshots
D. Amazon SQS
Correct Answer: B
Explanation:– An Amazon EBS volume is a durable, block-level storage device that you can attach to a single EC2 instance. You can use EBS volumes as primary storage for data that requires frequent updates, such as the system drive for an instance or storage for a database application.
