In this Video , we are going to look at what is Metadata service in Oracle SOA Suite, how to refer shared artifacts from MDS.
Oracle SOA MDS : Used to store Common Artifacts (xsd, wsdl,dvm etc:)
MDS is a Central Repository which is used to store  shared Artifacts  , deployed composites, configuration files.Those files which can be shared  among multiple SOA Projects / Services are recommended to be stored in MDS. It is more commonly used to reduce the jar size and avoid redundancy of the code.

Various types of File which can be stored  in MDS as :
- XSD file
- WSDL file
- Fault Handling related files
- spring context
MDS can be of two types:
a) File based   b) DB based

Why Developers should use File Based MDS instead DB Based MDS :
File based MDS resides in local machine of developers and each developer has his/her own copy of file based MDS. It is replica of DB based MDS. This file based MDS is used during the development time .
The only reason why developers should use File based MDS is because at the time of development if we are using DB based MDS, Â it might take more time to access files as compared to file based MDS and can slow down the speed of development.
Note : SOA Server look up for the files from DB based MDS but Developers can use both File based MDS and DB based MDS .
