This post covers a high-level overview and the Difference Between OIC And OCI, one of the most common questions asked in our Cloud Training Program.
As you know Oracle Cloud is an emerging cloud computing platform, offers a wide range of services like compute, storage, application development, and networking, etc. Oracle has grown splendidly in the past 30 years, from a small database company to a power player in the Cloud market. It has satisfied millions of customers with its wide variety of services.
In this post, we will cover:
- What is Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)
- What is Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC)
- Difference between OCI and OIC
- Certifications for OIC and OCI
If you are new to the cloud and not familiar with Cloud Service Models (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS) then I would highly recommend you to check our blog on Cloud Service Models (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS)
What is Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is a set of cloud services that enable you to build and run a wide range of applications and services in a highly available hosted environment. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) offers high-performance compute capabilities (as physical hardware instances) and storage capacity in a flexible overlay virtual network that is securely accessible from your on-premises network.
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is an IaaS and PaaS offering that provides a scalable, highly available, and cost-effective cloud platform to meet the needs of the modern enterprise. The technologies provided by Oracle Cloud Infrastructure give developers and IT broad support for running existing workloads as well as creating cloud-native applications
- OCI provides real-time elasticity for enterprise applications by combining Oracle’s autonomous services, integrated security, and Serverless computing.
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is designed for applications that require consistent high-performance, including stateful connections to databases, raw processing through CPUs or GPUs, millions of storage IOPS, and GB/s of throughput.
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is a natural fit for many high-performance and I/O intensive computing workloads such as crash and aerodynamic simulations, risk modeling, and digital twins.
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure provides a flexible data platform to enable you to build Big Data applications at a massive scale

What is Oracle Integration Cloud
Oracle Cloud Integration is more of a lightweight service that can be used to achieve simple, lightweight integrations that do not require much complexity. With Oracle Integration you have the power to connect your cloud and on-premises applications, automate business processes, and build web and mobile applications all in one place. Oracle intends OIC to be used by technically inclined clients without the need for a hardcore developer to come in and save the day.
- Oracle Integration Cloud is a PaaS offering from Integration. OIC includes 3 services i.e. ICS (Integration Cloud Service), VBCS (Visual Builder Cloud Service), and PCS (Process Cloud Service). OIC (ICS, VBCS, PCS) runs on top of OCI.
- Connects your applications, on-premise with Cloud (Integration Cloud Service) and helps in design, monitor, and managing connections between your applications
- Automate & Manage business Processes using Process Cloud Service)
- Build mobile and web Applications Visually using Visual Builder Cloud Service
- There are a number of design options available in the Oracle Integration Cloud which include Connections, Integration, Lookup, Packages, Adapters, Agents, Libraries.
Oracle OIC vs OCI
OIC stands for Oracle Integration Cloud which is a PaaS offering from Integration. It simplifies connectivity between key thrid party enterprise applications and on-premise applications. The platform offers enterprise-grade security, no hand-coding required, and governance capabilities. OIC runs on top of OCI.
Whereas OCI stands for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure which is an IaaS and PaaS offering from Oracle which offers real-time elasticity for enterprise applications by combining Oracle’s autonomous services, integrated security, and Serverless computing.

I’m Oracle Technical Consultant, I have registered for OCI training course. Can u you suggest is it good for me to learn OCI or move to OIC?
Rahul Dangayach says
Hi Vinay,
To make an informed decision, consider the following factors:
Your Current Role: Assess what your current role entails. If you are primarily responsible for infrastructure management, then OCI might be more relevant. If you are focused on integrating applications and data, then OIC is the way to go.
Career Goals: Consider your long-term career goals. If you want to specialize in cloud infrastructure or DevOps, OCI will be more aligned with those objectives. If you’re interested in application integration and modernization, OIC will be more suitable.
Organizational Needs: Your organization’s current and future projects may also influence your choice. If your company is heavily invested in Oracle’s cloud infrastructure, OCI might be a priority. If they are adopting cloud-based integrations, OIC could be more important.
Personal Interests: Finally, consider what interests you the most. Learning a technology that aligns with your passion can be more motivating and fulfilling.
In many cases, it’s valuable to have a combination of both OCI and OIC skills, especially if your role involves end-to-end cloud solutions. You can start with the one that aligns more closely with your current responsibilities and expand your skill set as needed.
Ultimately, both OCI and OIC have their own merits and can be valuable additions to your skill set as an Oracle Technical Consultant.
Hope this helps.
Thanks and Regards
