If you are new to the cloud, then I would suggest you check my previous post on Cloud Service Model SaaS PaaS & IaaS
b) Pizza Delivered represents PaaS
c) Dined Out represents SaaS
Below are some handful of queries asked by Trainees in very interactive session and worth sharing:
Q: Do we need to understand separate classes for Database as a Services (DBaaS), if we need managing EBS DB?
A: Oracle EBS (R12) on Oracle Cloud can be configured on IaaS or PaaS. If EBS Database is deployed on PaaS (DBCS/DBaaS) then you should learn and understand DBCS or DBaaS (Database as a Service)
Q: How is DBCS different than DBaaS?
A: DBCS stands for Database Cloud Service and DBaaS stands for Database as a Service. Oracle’s DBCS contains four main services
a) Database Schema Service where you get fully managed database Schema as part PDB (Pluggable Database)
b) Database as a Service (DBaaS) complete database with O.S. Access – this is most common and widely used
c) Exadata Cloud Service – Database running on Exadata Machine (Oracle’s Engineered System) for mission-critical applications
d) Database Backup Service – Backup solution for On-Premise and Cloud Database
We cover this and lot more in Module 3 of Cloud DBA Training
Q: In Oracle PaaS SOA CS, middleware RCU will be maintained by Client or Oracle?
A: Oracle’s SOA Cloud Service uses DBCS in for Database Schema and RCU (Repository Creation Utility) is handled by Oracle.
Q: What on Hybrid Cloud?
A: Hybrid Cloud depending on context can be
a) Some EBS Environment (like PROD & OAT) running on Cloud while other EBS Environments (DEV, TEST or DR) running on Cloud
b) Some applications running on One Cloud vendor (Oracle HCM/Financials) while other applications running on other Cloud Vendor (SalesForce or Workday)
Q: Is Oracle Fusion – SaaS or PaaS?
A: Oracle Fusion is SaaS and there is not much role of Cloud Apps DBA, apart from integration with OAM/SSO for Federation or Data Export/Import. EBS on Cloud is IaaS or IaaS with PaaS and there will be lot of work for Oracle Apps DBA so it’s time to learn Cloud Apps DBA
Q: Is it possible to EBS DB on PaaS and Application node on Premise?
A: Technically this is possible via VPN but because of Latency this should be avoided. More common is primary Apps & DB on-premise while DR is on Oracle Cloud
Overall, it was a fantastic session and got very good feedback. All are now excited to learn Cloud technology and transform from Apps DBA/DBA to Cloud Apps DBA.
Stay tuned for the further post. Many things to learn in Oracle Cloud!!

I am an Oracle Apps DBA with around 9 years of experience.
Which certification will be helpful to switch to Oracle EBS R12 on Cloud?
Atul Kumar says
Hi Soumya, Oracle DBCS (Oracle Cloud DBA) Certification 1Z0-160 will help, check at https://k21academy.com/1z016011 https://k21academy.com/1z016012 https://k21academy.com/1z016013 and https://k21academy.com/1z016021

Hello Atul,
I’m an Oracle Apps DBA holding 7 years of experience. And now I’d like to learn cloud.
I’ve a doubt and need your suggestion on this please:
what should I start learning in Cloud ?
DBaaS or IaaS or EBS on Cloud or PaaS or Saas?
Kindly help me on this.
Atul Kumar says
Nagendra, Good Question and in fact from this question I get a lot in our Cloud Group on Facebook at https://k21academy.com/joincloud that which one should I learn first in Oracle Cloud
It all depends on what’s your background. If you are functional consultant then you should look at SaaS but if you are not functional consultant then pick PaaS & IaaS
Now which one to pick in IaaS & PaaS first depends on what you do. Like If you are a
A) DBA – then pick DBCS/DBaaS (Database Cloud Service), check our FREE masterclass for Getting Started with DBAs on Cloud at https://k21academy.com/clouddba02 and check some of the useful links like Role of DBA in Cloud https://k21academy.com/clouddba12 or What’s right for DBAs Oracle Cloud or Amazon AWS https://k21academy.com/clouddba20
B) Apps DBA – then pick EBS R12 on Cloud, check our FREE masterclass for Oracle EBS R12 on Cloud: What, Why & How at https://k21academy.com/ebscloud02 and check some of the useful links like Role of Apps DBA in Cloud https://k21academy.com/ebscloud12 or 15 Must know things for beginners for learning Oracle EBS R12 on Cloud https://k21academy.com/ebscloud16
C) If you are Unix/Sysadmin or have gone through DBCS/EBS on Cloud then pick Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) for Architects – This is IaaS offering. Check our FREE masterclass, Beginner to Oracle Certified Cloud (OCI) Architect https://k21academy.com/iaas02 and OCI Overview at https://k21academy.com/iaas13
I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Atul
Just discovered this page and found it very useful. My query might not be relevant to this learning blog, as I’m an Oracle developer, providing in-house customization (functional) on Oracle EBS R12, developing and providing reports (BI Publisher, OBIEE reporting via data warehouse managed by DAC and Informatica ETL).
We are now planning to move from EBS R12 to Oracle Cloud SaaS. My question is about my next learning step to provide the same service as I’m currently involved in. Could you please suggest/guide towards right learning steps.
Thanks, Sandeep
