This blog post will go through some quick tips including Q/A and related blog posts on the topics that we covered in the Azure Database Administrator Day 2 Live Session which will help you gain a better understanding and make it easier for you to learn the Azure Database Administrator Training Program clear the [DP-300] Certification & get a better-paid job.
On our Day 2 Live Session of the [DP-300] Microsoft Database Administrator Training Program, we covered the concepts of Plan And Implement Data Platform Resources and learned and Learn how to Deploying Azure SQL Databases.
Plan And Implement Data Platform Resources
In plan and implement data platform resources we Configure virtual machine sizing, storage, and networking options to ensure adequate performance for your database workloads. Provision and deploy Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL managed instance. And compare and configure Open Source Azure Database offerings with Azure SQL offerings.
Azure Virtual Machine Families
General-purpose
- Balanced CPU to memory ratio
- Sizes: B, Dsv3, Dv3, DC, DCv2, DSv2, Dav4
Memory Optimised
- High memory to CPU
- Sizes: Esv3, Ev3, Eav4, Mv2, DSv2
Storage Optimised
- High disk throughput provided by local storage
- Sizes: Lsv2
Compute Optimised
- High CPU to memory ratio
- Sizes: Fsv2
High-Performance Compute
- Most Powerful CPU
- Sizes: HB, HBv2, HC, H
Q.1 List the name of managed disks used in Azure virtual machines.
- Standard HDD (Backup, non-critical systems, infrequent access).
- Standard SSD (Web servers, dev/test workloads).
- Premium SSD (Production, Database servers, performance-sensitive workloads).
- Ultra SSD (Lowest latency, IO intensive SQL Servers).
Q.2 From how many ways we can deploy Azure resources.
- Using azure portal
- Running Powershell or Azure CLI
- Deploying Azure Resource Manager templates
Q.3 What is Azure Migrate Tool?
The Migrate tool will do discover your environment and can optionally execute the migration of your databases.

Q.4 What is a database migration assistant?
The Database Migration Assistant assesses your environment for moving from on-premises to either Iaas or Paas. It detects issues that can affect SQL Server version upgrades or migration to Azure SQL database or managed instance. And assesses the T-SQL code in your application to identify breaking changes.
Azure SQL Database – Serverless
Allows you to spend less for databases that do not need to be running 24*7
Configurable: You can specify a minimum and the maximum number of vCores allocated to the database.
Autopause Delay: This is the time in Days/Hours/Minutes that the database must be idle in order to be paused
- The option is suited for irregular workloads
- Serverless is only available in the vCore model

Q.5 What are the Azure SQL Database offerings?
The Azure SQL Database service provides automatic patching and backups and allows fast access to new
databases features.
Single Database: A fully managed and isolated database that is managed and billed independently. A single database
has its own dedicated resources.
Elastic Pool: A collection of databases that share a pool of resources. These resources are managed collectivity and
this architecture can reduce your costs and your management overhead.
Hyperscale: A single database deployment that supports very large volumes of data (up to 100 TB).
Q.6 What is Azure SQL Database Hyperscale?
Hyperscale removes that limit and uses a scale-out methodology to maintain performance as data volumes grow. And the cost of the hyper-scale is the same as a single Azure SQL Database.
Q.7 What are Elastic Pools?
Many Software as a service applications provision a database for each tenant or shard data across multiple databases that have common usages pattern. Elastic pools allow for these databases to be managed together as they share resources. You can configure min/max DTU or vCore settings on a per-database level to balance resource usages within an elastic pool.
Q.8 What is PostgreSQL HyperScale?
This feature shares a name with the azure SQL Database hyper-scale but has a different implementation. It allows for scale-out workloads using a shared-nothing architecture. Consists of a server group of nodes with coordinator nodes and worker nodes.

>Lab: Deploying Azure SQL Databases
In this lab, we will configure the basic resources needed to deploy an Azure SQL Database with a Virtual Network Endpoint. Connectivity to the SQL Database will be validated using Azure Data Studio from the lab VM. Finally, an Azure Database for PostgreSQL will be created.
