Know what AI engineer interviewers ask when you come from IT infrastructure or DevOps. Every question comes with the role it was asked for, its difficulty, and the points a strong answer should cover.
Fill in your details and we will send the PDF straight to your inbox.
Written around the skills you already have, and the AI skills interviewers expect you to add on top.
What AI engineers do, tokens, latency, inference and your career story.
Bedrock, SageMaker, Microsoft Foundry, self-hosting and private networking.
Vector databases, deploying RAG, agent infrastructure, MCP and A2A.
LLMOps, GPU inference on Kubernetes, cost control and latency.
CI/CD with evaluation gates, IaC and GitOps, agents for SRE teams.
Monitoring, prompt injection, PII and governance for AI agents.
You come from IT infra or DevOps. What does an AI engineer actually do, and which of your skills carry over?
Explain how a large language model serves a request in terms an infra team cares about: tokens, latency, throughput and cost.
What is the difference between training, fine-tuning and inference, and which matters most for infrastructure?
Each question shows you who asks it, how hard it is, and what a strong answer covers.
Here is question 20 from the guide. The other 24 come in the PDF.
How would you take an AI agent from a laptop prototype to a production service?
Say your answer before you read the page. Interviews are spoken, so practise speaking, ideally with a two-minute timer.
Check it against the key points. For the story question, study the sample answer for its structure: problem, what you did, numbers.
Swap the sample story for a project of your own, and mark every question you could not answer. Those are your next skills to build.
Hear it from K21 Academy learners who prepared, interviewed and got hired.

“I have finally secured a contract-to-hire role as a Generative AI Engineer.”I was deploying a RAG pipeline to a web app during the actual hiring process. The projects I built at K21 were exactly what the company needed.
“I'm thrilled to share that I've recently landed a role as a Generative AI Engineer.”The hands-on projects let me confidently describe an end-to-end AI solution in the interview. The interviewer was genuinely impressed.
“I've successfully landed a job as an AI Engineer.”Worked hands-on with Azure AI services, Azure AI Foundry, and OpenAI. Later received a second offer as a Generative AI Engineer. K21 gave me the skills and confidence to choose.
“The support is extremely awesome for labs, doubts and even resume updates.”I am 3 weeks into the AI/ML program. The team creates a custom game plan and learning path for everyone. The real-world project experiences and hands-on lab experience is a key differentiator.
“I got cracked that role.”The Azure AI/ML trainee landed the job after completing the program and building out her portfolio.
“I've secured a position as an OpenShift Architect.”Credits the structured training and support system for making the transition into a cloud architecture role.

System administrators, cloud, network and infrastructure engineers, DevOps engineers and SREs moving into AI Engineer, MLOps Engineer, Agentic AI Engineer, AWS or Azure AI/ML Engineer and AI Platform Engineer roles.
No. The questions start from the skills you already have, such as networking, Kubernetes, CI/CD and cost, and show the AI concepts interviewers expect you to add on top.
Each question lists three points a strong answer should cover, and the career story question includes a full sample answer. Use them to check your own answer and spot gaps, not as a script to memorise.
AI foundations, cloud AI platforms, RAG and agents, MLOps and scaling, DevOps for AI, and security and governance. 25 questions in total, 8 of them on 2026-27 trends.
That's normal. Interviewers can tell whether you have actually deployed AI in production. K21 Academy's AI Engineer program for infrastructure and DevOps professionals builds on the skills you already have.
