2. Activity Guide: Create Virtual Cloud Network (VCN), Subnets, Security List, Gateway & Route Table For VM/BM & ExaCS
Networking has a big role in Cloud databases for example to make a connection between on-premise and cloud databases and to store database backup to object storage networking is required.
To know more about Networking, I would highly recommend you to check my previous post on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI): Networking https://k21academy.com/oci18
3. Activity Guide: How To Generate SSH Keys in Oracle Cloud
Oracle Cloud Services are built on the top of OCI, You will need an SSH key pair to access the Linux/Database or Exadata instances. An SSH key pair comprises a Private key and a Public key. You keep the private key on your personal computer and provide the Public key every time you launch an Instance.
Note: To know about how to create an ssh key check here https://k21academy.com/oci51
4. Activity Guide: Create & Access User-Managed/VMDB Database
The Database service offers autonomous and user-managed Oracle Database solutions.
The next step you should know about is User-managed solutions that are Bare metal, Virtual machine, and Exadata DB systems that you can customize with the resources and settings that meet your needs.
This Activity Guide helps you in creating a Database in OCI & accessing it via putty
Note: To know about how to provision a database check here https://k21academy.com/clouddba60
5. Activity Guide: Create & Access Autonomous Database
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s Autonomous Database Service is a fully managed, pre-configured database environment. You do not need to configure or manage any hardware or install any software. After provisioning, you can scale the number of CPU cores or the storage capacity of the database at any time without impacting availability or performance.
This Activity Guide helps you in creating and accessing an autonomous database via SQL Developer.
Note: To know more about how to provision an Autonomous database on oracle cloud check here https://k21academy.com/clouddba31
6. Activity Guide: Configure Network For Exadata DB System
Before you set up an Exadata Cloud Service instance, you must set up a virtual cloud network (VCN) and other Networking service components.
In this lab, we will describe the recommended configuration for the VCN and several related requirements for the Exadata Cloud Service instance.
7. Activity Guide: Create & Access Exadata DB System in OCI
An Exadata DB system consists of a quarter rack, half rack, or full rack of compute nodes and storage servers, with a high-speed, low-latency Band network.
In this Activity Guide, You will provision the Exadata DB System in OCI
Note: To know more about how to provision Exadata DB System on oracle cloud check here https://k21academy.com/clouddba62
8. Troubleshooting Compute and Database Instance Connectivity issue
In this lab, we will discuss the Troubleshooting Steps for Connectivity Issues you can face while connecting to a Compute (Linux/Windows) & Database Instance in Oracle Cloud (OCI).
There could be multiple reasons for Instance Connectivity issues in OCI like:
- Issue 1: In Security List SSH port 22 (Linux) and Port 3389 (Windows) is not open from the internet in Cloud Firewall and port 1521 to connect to database listener.
- Issue 2: SSH Public key you generated was not uploaded properly while creating the instance (or you are not using Private Key Properly in Putty).
- Issue 3: You have forgotten to add the Private key under SSH->Auth
- Issue 4: It could be a typo issue for the username
9. Activity Guide: Administration Database (Start, Stop, Terminate, Cloning, Scale, Manage)
Then we learn how to Manage Databases on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), which includes Start /Stop Database, Scale Up & Scale Down database, and will also see how will you manage the database from DBCLI a command-line utility.
10. Activity Guide: Patching VM/BM DB System & Database On OCI
A patch is applied to the database to update, fix, or improve it. This includes fixing security bugs, patches usually being called bugfixes or bug fixes, and improving the functionality, usability, or performance.
In this activity guide, you will be performing one of the common tasks for DBA’s, which is patching from Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Console and the command-line interface.
11. Activity Guide: Patching (Exadata Cloud Tooling, Grid, DB System, Operating System) in ExaCS
In this Activity Guide, you will apply a patch to Oracle Database Exadata Cloud Service, and roll back the patch as necessary.
12. Lab Activity Guide: Backup & Restore VM/BM & Autonomous DB System
Database backup is the process of backing up the stored data of the database. It enables the creation of a duplicate instance or copy of a database in case the primary database crashes, is corrupted, or is lost.
In this guide we will cover how you can Backup & Restore Database that is On Cloud to Cloud Object Storage, Creating an On-Demand Backup of the Database, and Restoring from the Backup.
Note: To know more about backup & restore databases click here https://k21academy.com/clouddba56
13. Activity Guide: Backup & Restore Exadata DB System
In this Activity Guide, You will see how you can Backup & Restore the Database On Exadata Cloud Service, Restoring Database Using RMAN Utility & DBCS Console.
14. Activity Guide: Create & Connect MySQL DB System on Oracle Cloud
The NEW MySQL Database Service (MDS) is the only database service that is 100% developed, managed, and supported by the MySQL team. MySQL Database Service is a fully managed service, running on Oracle Gen 2 Cloud Infrastructure. It enables you to:
- Instantly provision MySQL instances and connect to a production-ready, pre-configured MySQL database.
- Automate database-specific tasks such as configuration, security patching, backup, and monitoring.
- Choose from multiple compute shapes, depending on your application and capacity requirements.
- Provision fast, reliable, and secure cloud storage for all enterprise workloads.
- Free up time of developers, DBAs, and DevOps to focus on value-added tasks that are core to your business
15. Activity Guide: Managing Services For NoSQL Database
NoSQL databases have become increasingly popular and are now seen as one of the necessary tools in the toolbox that every application developer must have at their disposal. While tried and true relational databases are great at solving classic application problems like data normalization, strictly consistent data, and arbitrarily complex queries to access that data, NoSQL databases take a different approach.
In this lab, you will get started with tables in Oracle NoSQL Database Cloud Service.
16. Activity Guide: Install & Configure Management Agents
To manage an external database using OCI’s External Database service, you create an OCI resource known as a “handle” that represents the external database within your tenancy.
➢ After creating a handle for your database, you create a second resource called a database connection.
➢ The connection stores the information required for your OCI tenancy to connect to the external database.
➢ This is facilitated by the Management Agent Cloud Service agent
➢ After creating the connection resource and connecting the OCI handle to your external database instance, you can enable the Database Management service to monitor the health and performance of your database.

17. Activity Guide: Register External Databases
You can manage and monitor Oracle Databases that are located outside of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) using OCI’s External Database service. External Database allows you to use cloud-based tools such as Database Management with your external databases. External Database can be used with both single-instance Oracle Databases and Oracle RAC instances.
In this lab you will learn how to:
- Manually register the Container Databases (CDBs) and Pluggable Databases (PDBs) with External Database Service.
- Register the Container Databases (CDBs) and Pluggable Databases (PDBs) with External Database Service using Terraform and Resource Manager.
- After registering databases enable Database Management service.
